Zimbabwe to Cull 200 Elephants to Feed its Hungry Population. What is UN doing?

Zimbabwe is facing the worst drought in 40 years. Crops are failing, and people are suffering from hunger. To feed humans with meat, 200 elephants are being killed. Zimbabwe wildlife authority has confirmed this news.

Zimbabwe is suffering the worst drought of the last 40 years. Crops have failed and people are dying of hunger. Wildlife authority of Zimbabwe have decided to cull 200 elephants so that hungry people could be fed.

Most of the South African countries are presently experiencing drought due to El-Nino. Almost 70 million people are affected due to this. In neighbouring country Namibia 83 elephants have already been killed to feed people. Over 200,000 elephants live in five regions of Africa. These regions are Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Angola, and Namibia. This is the largest elephant population in the world.

If things have come to such a pass that elephants have to be killed to feed people then the question arises is what is UN exactly doing? Is is not supposed to play a significant role in addressing hunger crises like those in Zimbabwe. UN runs WFP (World Food Programme ) where it provides emergency food assistance, distributes ration and supports vulnerable communities especially during drought or economic crisis. Is the crisis in African countries not big enough to wake it up from slumber. If the answer is no, then it is time for nations to reconsider the role of the UN
