What Are The Seven Wonders of The World

The Seven Wonders of the World are

Taj Mahal, India ; Chichen Itza, Mexico ; Christ the Redeemer, Brazil; The Great Wall, China; Machu Picchu, Peru; Petra, Jordan; and The Roman Colosseum Italy 

1: Taj Mahal :- The Taj Mahal situated in Agra, in India topped the list of Seven Wonders. This spectacular white marble structure was built by the Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan in the loving memory of his beloved queen Mumtaz Mahal. The construction of the mausoleum began in 1632 and continued for 22 long years. This structure has 4 minarets each more than 13 storeys tall. Standing majestically in formal walled gardens, the Taj Mahal is regarded as the finest example of Mughal art and architecture. Shahjahan wanted to build another Taj Mahal this time in black marble but was stopped by his son Aurangzeb as he feared that his father would exhaust the treasury in making another Taj Mahal.

2: Chichen Itza:- Chichen Itza in Mexico is famous temple city of the Mayas, a pre-Columbian civilisation that lived in the present day Central America. During 750-1200 A.D., the city was considered the main political and religious centre of Maya civilisation. The temple of Kukulkan lies in the heart of the city. It rises to a height of 79 feet, with each of its four sides having 91 steps- one step representing each day of the year, with the 365th day symbolised by the platform on the top.

3: Christ the Redeemer :- Christ the Redeemer is the statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro Brazil. The statue stands 130 feet (39.6) metres tall, weighs 700 tonnes, and is located at the peak of the Corcovado Mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park overlooking the city.

4:The Great Wall of China:- The Great Wall of China was built, rebuilt  and maintained between the 5th century B.C. and 16th century A.D. to protect the northern borders of the Chinese Empire during the rule of successive dynasties. The wall stretches some 4000 miles (6400 kilometres). Its best known section is the one built  by Qin Shi Huang Di, the first emperor of China. The wall is the longest human-made structure and the only one that is visible from the moon.

5:Machu Picchu:- Machu Picchu is a 15th century mountain settlement in the Amazon region of Peru. It is ruined city that once cradled the Inca civilisation, which inhabited the Andes region of western South America. Often referred to as “The Lost City of the Incas” the site is absolute masterpiece of architecture and a unique testimony to the Inca civilisation.

6: Petra:- Petra in Jordan is located on the brink of the Arabian Desert. It was the capital of the Nabatean kingdom of King Aretas IV from 9 B.C. to 40 A.D. the site is famous for its numerous stone structures, including the 138- foot-tall temple carved with classical facades into rose- coloured rock. The ancient city also included tunnels, water chambers and an amphitheatre that could house 4000 people.

7: The Roman Colosseum:- The Roman Colosseum in Italy is a giant amphitheatre, which could originally accommodate 50000 spectators. It was used to watch brutal games, including gladiatorial contests, etc. It was built between 70 A.D. and 72 A.D. under Emperor Vespasian. Despite being in a heavily ruined condition, the Colosseum is still considered an iconic symbol of Imperial Rome and one of the most magnificent examples of Roman architecture. It is the only finalist from Europe that has succeeded in making its place in the new list of Seven Wonders.

The Pyramid of Giza, also known as the Great Pyramid, is not listed among the New 7 Wonders of the World because it belongs to the original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
