Licenses Of 14 Patanjali Products Cancelled By Uttarakhand Government

In an affidavit presented to the Supreme Court, the Uttarakhand government revealed that it has authorized the filing of a complaint against Baba Ramdev’s Divya Pharmacy and Patanjali Ayurved Ltd. for recurrent breaches of drug advertisement regulations. Additionally, the government has suspended manufacturing licenses for 14 of their products.

The affidavit from the Uttarakhand government stated that its State Licensing Authority had issued a public notice warning that the dissemination of advertisements in contravention of the law would result in severe disciplinary measures and legal consequences, such as fines, imprisonment, or both.

The affidavit submitted by the State Licensing Authority, Ayurvedic and Unani Services, disclosed that it had authorized the Drug Inspector of Haridwar on April 12 to file a complaint against Divya Pharmacy and Patanjali Ayurved Ltd. for persistent breaches of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.

In an order issued on April 10, the Supreme Court directed the former Joint Director of the State Licensing Authority and all officials serving as District Ayurvedic and Unani Officers in Haridwar from 2018 until the present to submit their individual affidavits elucidating the reasons for their lack of action.

 

The Indian Medical Association has called for action against Patanjali for allegedly breaching the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act. This legislation prohibits the promotion of specific products for the treatment of designated diseases and conditions, such as diabetes, heart diseases, high or low blood pressure, and obesity.

 

The ayurvedic company had previously provided an assurance to the Supreme Court, pledging to refrain from making casual statements asserting the medicinal effectiveness of its products or promoting them in contravention of the law. Additionally, it vowed not to issue any statements to the media in any format that would denigrate any system of medicine.
