Champion wrestlers Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat have formally joined the Congress and will contest the upcoming Haryana assembly elections. Both Bajrang Punia and Vinesh Phogat are the leading faces of the protest against former BJP MP and federation chief Brij Bhushan Singh.
Vinesh Phogat who made history by becoming the first women wrestler from India to reach the Olympics final, was later disqualified after she was found overweight by a mere 100 grams.
Bajrang Punia brought laurels to the country after he won bronze medal in 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
It will be interesting to see whether the BJP will give ticket to Babita Phogat, who is also Vinesh Phogat’s cousin, to contest against her in the Haryana elections. Babita Phogat is a BJP member who joined the party in 2019.
