After student protests in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina had to leave her position as Prime Minister and come to India. Local leaders are continuously protesting against India over this issue, demanding the extradition of Hasina, who needs to “face the law” in Bangladesh.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, has said that in order to start a new chapter in the relationship between India and Bangladesh the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is necessary. He further said that Hasina’s presence in India could damage bilateral relations.
BNP Secretary General said in an interview that if his party comes to power, it will review the controversial Adani power deal made during the Awami League’s rule because it is increasing burden on the people of Bangladesh
Alamgir expressed a desire for strong relations with India and stated that his party is ready to “leave past differences behind and adopt a cooperative” approach. He also assured that the BNP would not allow any activities on Bangladeshi soil that could threaten India’s security.
It is to be noted that Sheikh Hasina has been in India since August 5th after being overthrown as the PM of Bangladesh
