Election Commission has banned Congress leader Randeep Surjewala from campaigning for 48 hours over his remarks on BJP Mathura candidate and film actress Hema Malini. The commission has imposed a ban on Surjewala’s election campaign for the next 48 hours from 6 pm today.. During this period, he will not be able to hold public meetings, roadshows, interviews, or give public statements in the media. He had said, “Why do people make us legislators, MPs? We are not Hema Malini whom people elect to see dancing.

After the controversy escalated Surjewala clarified and said, “My intention was not to insult her (Hema Malini) or hurt her. The meaning of my statement is being twisted and propagated in the viral video, I completely refute it.”
